LEND A HAND.
OPPORTUNITIES
Real Roots operates multiple farm sites throughout the greater Richmond area. The main site is located in Mechanicsville, and the urban site is located on Eanes Lane in the East End.
All volunteers must sign a waiver form upon arrival before getting your hands in the dirt. Experience is great but not necessary. There will be varying tasks to suit myriad skillsets which include, but are not limited to: mowing, weed whacking, weeding, watering, bed preparation, and composting.
The farm never rests, and there are always things that can be done. If your schedule allows, please consider staying for the duration of the workdays. It helps us plan the day and makes for a better volunteer experience.
During peak season temperatures can be quite hot, and working on a space that by design has no shade, we ask that you come prepared for these climates. Please protect your skin—we suggest a large hat that covers your face and neck. Wear plenty of layers in the winter!
Bring a large water-bottle and snack.
APPLY
Real Roots Food Systems is an entity with the mission of increasing participation in the food system by implementing and supporting original farming practices both locally and regionally. Real Roots runs both for-profit and mutual aid based operations on multiple farm sites throughout the city of Richmond. As we fulfill our mission, we seek to create a network of highly motivated individuals that share our vision as an organization.
That said, it’s important that the people that work for us know our values and share the same heart and mind. We do not seek to fit into the status quo, we seek to change it. We know this will involve powerful ideas and equally powerful people.
Your responses can be as short or as long as you’re comfortable with, however the more detail you provide gives us the opportunity to get to know you better. Don’t be afraid to elaborate!
Completion of this application is required before joining the Real roots team.
